MI6 New Neighbors
Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) has unveiled its design for a new mixed-use project at Vauxhall Cross Island in Lambeth, a borough of south London known for the neighboring location of the headquarters of the British Intelligence Service MI6. The proposal comprises a 500-room Hilton hotel, 260 residences, 220,000 square feet of offices, a bus station, and an estimated 7,000 square feet of retail and dining. Connected on street level by a 10-story glazed podium, the complex will include 46- and 23-story towers. A timeline has not yet been confirmed.
“The design responds to Lambeth Council’s aspirations for a district center for Vauxhall by creating a vibrant new public square adjacent to the busy rail, underground, and bus interchange,” ZHA said in a statement. “The proposal also accommodates Transport for London’s existing plans to upgrade the traffic gyratory and bus station to provide greater accessibility and safety for all. This proposal will generate approximately 2,000 new jobs in the borough within a mixed-use design that includes a new public square, homes, offices, shops, and a hotel—providing vital civic space, amenities, and employment for the growing Vauxhall community.”
