River Empire

Nature bursts into spiraling heights with Büro Ole Scheeren’s landscaped high-rise ensemble for Vietnam’s next generation.

Ho Chi Minh City - the second, informal capital of Vietnam is a large and modern city, which really worth seeing. It is a big and modern city with a lot of beautiful landmarks. There is still a lot of old architecture samples, and the mixture of French Colonial and Chinese styles impressed travelers back in those days when the city known under the name of Saigon, deserved to be called “Eastern Paris” and “Diamond of the Far East”. However, nowadays the eight-million metropolis is actively built up with high-rise buildings. Many world-renowned architectural companies such as SOM, Arquitectonica, AREP, KSP Jurgen Engel Architekten, Foster + Partners already have been invited to design projects for Vietnam, and now Ole Scheeren - a new iconic architect of the East Asia joined to this splendid team. Empire City, a spectacular ensemble of high-rise towers and public spaces, marks Büro Ole Scheeren’s expansion into Vietnam. It is set to become a new focal point of Ho Chi Minh City, sculpting a symbiotic vision of nature and living within the space of the city. Situated on a central peninsula of the Saigon River, the project will generate an integrative environment that fuses natural landscape with the rapidly growing metropolis.

Three skyscrapers will soar above a mountain-shaped, garden-like podium, with the central Empire 88 Tower reaching a height of 333 meters. The podium will echo Vietnam’s mesmerizing landscape, with its poetic soft hills and cultivated terraced rice fields, and will anchor the tower ensemble to the ground.
