CityLife Milano is an ambitious commercial and residential development on Milan’s historic former trade fair grounds: the Fiera Milano. Three towers are part of the wider redevelopment program of this historical trade fair area of Milan, one of the largest pedestrian zones in Europe. It covers the area of about 360,000 square meters. Its implementation began in 2007, and all works are scheduled to be completed in 2015.

This lush, pedestrianized space will be centered around a grand new piazza – named ‘piazza delle tre torri’ – shaped by a trio of towers and surrounded by a cluster of residences, all designed by three world-renowned architects: Arata Isozaki, Daniel Libeskind and Zaha Hadid.

The complex harmoniously combines living residences, offices, shops and service facilities and leisure activities. All of this will be surrounded by a new large city park, the third largest in Milan. The project is characterized by the use of innovative technologies in the construction and attention to environmental issues. On the surface, over half of CityLife Milano will be covered with upwards of 168,000 square meters of landscaped parkland dedicated to pedestrians and bicycles. As previously mentioned, Arata Isozaki and Andrea Maffei has contributed the Isozaki Tower, which is planned to become the tallest skyscraper in Italy at 202 meters and will be built alongside the curved, 150 meter Libeskind Tower by Daniel Libeskind. To complete the triad, Zaha Hadid has designed a twisting, glazed tower, which will rise 170 meters into the skyline.

Three high-rise skyscrapers become the district dominant and the new international symbol of Milan. They also form the central area of the complex, which stipulates the creation of a comfortable environment for business and life. Thus, nearby its residential area will be created a lot of public spaces, where the inhabitants of this district could take a walk, relax or play with the kids. Pedestrian paths will connect the area with landscaped park of Sempione and Porta Venezia public gardens.

There are also provided parking for around 7,000 vehicles located in underground facilities. Further to the existing public transportation network, the CityLife area will be served by the new M5 subway line (now in vicinity are two metro stations Domodossola and Portello), currently under construction, with a dedicated station at the centre of the “Piazza Tre Torri”.

Construction is already underway, and since it is conducted in the historic part of the city development, the company places great emphasis on compliance with safety and environmental standards, as well as the timing of the project. That is why in the construction of such a complex object are used the most advanced technological means and methods, as well as the management of the international level, which guarantees the effectiveness of the work. Prior to the construction in the area were carried out archaeological excavations, demolished the old pavilions and examined existing green spaces - in order to see which of them can be saved as a part of the new territory. The developer of the CityLife project provides to the public and inhabitants of Milan maximum opportunities to monitor the progress of the construction works.
