Two Elements of Telus Sky
Calgary is a realy wonderful city - modern skyscrapers peacefully coexist there with unique heritage-listed buildings, museums and galleries. The development of the oil and gas industry has transformed the city into a corporate capital of Canada and it entailed the construction of the headquarters of the leading companies in the industry. History of highrises erection started there from the creation of grain exchange building( 1910), followed by Hotel Fairmont Palliser (1914) and the Center for Elvdena. Prior to the 1970s, there were not a lot tall buildings, but after the 1970’s and up to the 90s Calgary experienced a great boom of the skyscrapers construction.
The tallest building in the city today is the 236-meter The Bow, recently erected on the project of Foster + Partners. In the coming years the city skyline will be acomplished with more high-rise objects, and among them will be presented the Telus Sky skyscraper – designed by worldrenowned architects from Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). Working alongside local architecture firm Dialog, BIG proposes a mixed-use building. TELUS Sky will be a LEED Platinum signature development for TELUS created by BIG and Dialog, along with partners: developer Westbank and real estate investment trust Allied Properties.
Telus Sky will be built in the heart of Calgary, on Seventh Avenue. Art Central, located at 100 7th Ave. S.W., will be demolished to make room for Telus Sky, which the company says will transform Calgary’s skyline with “an architectural marvel, creating a dynamic community of blended urban living and working.” Telus says it will transform the entire 7th Avenue block into “one of the most technologically innovative and environmentally- friendly sites” in North America. 227-meter 58-storey Telus Sky will be the second tallest building in the city, being inferior only 20 meters to a nearby located The Bow. This vibrant multi-functional skyscraper covering an area of 69,680 square meters, will house offices, retail and residential accommodations. There will be 430,000 square feet of office space, of which 155,000 square feet will be for TELUS.
