Extreme Amusement for Miami
Sixty-nine percent of voters have selected “yes” to begin construction on the Arquitectonica-designed SkyRise Miami. In the opinion of developers, for Miami it should be as landmark facility as Empire State Building for New York, Space Needle for Seattle or the Eiffel Tower for Paris.
A proposal to bring a 1,000-foot (305-meter) skyscraper to downtown Miami was approved by South Florida voters amid hopes it will help re-invigorate Bayside Marketplace, sits on land leased from the city.
The construction of this cutting edge skyscraper of glass and steel is headed by Jeff Berkowitz, and to finance this original tourist attraction administration intends Miami-Dade County. The vote will give Bayside operator General Growth Properties a 99-year extension on its lease. The marketplace will pay the city $10 million and guarantee $3.5 million a year in rent. Bayside will also receive $27 million in improvements and additional parking.
“We’re going to become the fifthlargest tourist attraction in the state of Florida,” said Jeff Berkowitz. “We’re going to become the tallest building on the Eastern Seaboard south of New York. We’re going to attract 3.2 million visitors, and we’re going to change the skyline of Miami forever.”
SkyRise Miami is the heart of Downtown Miami’s Bayfront Entertainment Center. Standing on the water’s edge of Bayside Marketplace, a shopping and dining destination for over 23 million annual visitors, Skyrise Miami is walking distance from a variety of other entertainment venues including: the American Airlines Arena (820,000 annual visitors), home to the world champion Miami Heat; Museum Park, with its two brand new venues, the Science Museum (550,000 projected annual visitors) and the Miami Art Museum (200,000 projected annual visitors); and Bayfront Park with over 500,000 annual visitors.
SkyRise Miami is also only minutes away from South Beach, anointed the “American Rivera” and crowned by Ocean Drive, a worldwide catwalk of see-and-be-seen nightclubs, shops, hotels and restaurants. SkyRise Miami exemplifies all that Miami is known the world over for as a premier vacation destination and international city.
SkyRise Miami is the iconic landmark of the great City of Miami – where the world comes to play. Beautiful weather, world famous beaches and the sparkling waters of Biscayne Bay are the backdrops for the new tower. Located only minutes from one of the busiest international airports in the world (27 million annual passengers) and next door to the Port of Miami, also known as the Cruise Capital of the World (4 million annual passengers), SkyRise Miami is easily accessible.
