In Melbourne is underway construction of 75-storey tower Victoria One, designed by Australian architectural firm Elenberg Fraser. This is a mixedused proposal located in the north of Melbourne’s CBD, which is considered the most rapidly changing precinct of the city. Completion of works is scheduled for 2018.

Victoria One is situated on the corner of Elizabeth and Franklin Streets, in an ideal northern central city location. The position enjoys close proximity to the Queen Victoria Market, Melbourne Central, numerous transport routes, and Melbourne’s best universities.

The corporate centre for the region and office towers is very close, along with the country’s best universities. The nearby Flagstaff Gardens offer expansive recreation spaces and shady green lawns. For work and play, Victoria One has it all just outside the front door.

Victoria One will be the tallest residential tower in the city. The project seeks to reinvent the natural landscape of Australia’s Victoria state in an urban setting, through an optically transformative facade and botanical aesthetic. The 75 storey development comprises of 629 apartments, 178 car parking spaces, 264 bicycle spaces, retail tenancies at Ground/Level 1 and residential facilities at Levels 9, 40 and 66. For residents there are three floors of communal spaces that again touch on the great outdoors and give a sense of community within, bringing a piece of Victoria’s iconic landscapes to the heart of Melbourne’s CBD. From here views to Flagstaff gardens, Melbourne Museum and Port Melbourne are on display.

“We used to be told that we would love every piece of Victoria, and Elenberg Fraser has taken this on board. You can now find every piece of Victoria in our new building Victoria One, on the edge of Melbourne’s CBD. This is the first project with developer Golden Age marks the next chapter in Elenberg Fraser’s story of rejuvenation for Melbourne’s northern corner. The form and façade of this mixed-use tower recalls Victoria’s famous landscapes – the gardens, waterfalls, rainforests, waterways and beaches that make up this southern state. The fluid façade appears soft and yielding like the local parks, oceans and rivers.

Green glazing with gold highlights gives a botanic feel. The fins – which appropriately also assist with wind and sun protection – are shimmering silver, shifting like the currents of a stream or leaves being shaken with rain. The story continues inside, as the fins peel away from the diagonal corners of the building, exposing the life within.” – commented in Elenberg Fraser.

Victoria One is a tower with a refined sense of elegance. A tall, confident and elegant building its highly considered form includes a sequence of undulating vertical fins on the exterior with a stunning shade of tea green throughout the glass façades. The tower clad with green glazing and layered architectural fins the structure is not only defined by its soaring height, but also its distinctive finned envelope, designed to give the building aerodynamic qualities which reduces downdrafts towards street level. These vertical wings also work as passive solar shading – reflecting natural light and glare.
