The Rational Architecture
Located in Saudi Arabia’s financial center in Riyadh, this stock exchange building is endowed with technologically advanced functions while asserting the identity of this pivot of the economy of the Middle East. Chosen in an international competition, the exterior is equipped with louvers to allow for both panoramic views and shielding against the heat of the sun. The design mobilizes numerous stateof- the-art technologies to assure sustainability in the desert environment.
In the high-rise commercial segment, Schindler has been chosen to supply mobility solutions for Tadawul Tower, a prestigious project in the King Abdullah Financial District of the Saudi capital city of Riyadh. This 41-story, 200-meter skyscraper will be the new home of the Saudi Stock Exchange, or Tadawul. The installation will feature 26 elevators, including 19 Schindler 7000 elevators with speeds of up to six meters per second, as well as eight escalators.
Innovative features include a “sunlight scooper” introducing natural sunlight, photovoltaic panels to reduce energy consumption, solar shading to help reduce cooling, mirror ducts introducing natural light to basement levels and deep inside the building, and dry mist cooling of exterior space. The project is planned for completion in early 2015.
The Tadawul Tower development is designed by the Japanese architectural firm Nikken Sekkei – the world leader in sustainable design. The architects sought to incorporate several energy-saving technologies in their planning in order to be compliant with the latest LEED standards as well as the green building rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council.
Visitors to the new Tadawul Headquarters will profit from Schindler’s latest innovation in transit management – the Personal Occupant Requirement Terminal (PORT) Technology. Schindler’s PORT capabilities will provide the building with substantial energy saving, access control and transit management benefits.
This technology is offered with Schindler 400AE, 500A and 7000 for mid- and high-rise buildings, and it also available for modernizations on existing buildings – whether the building has a Schindler system or not.
Technology PORT – this is the third, improved generation of supervisory control, raised to a new level the concept of continuous administration of transit. Sleek touchscreen interface, placed in the access point and the elevators themselves is a visible basis of technology, equipped with software that processes the information from the electronic key in seconds, determines the nearest elevator and displays it on the bright color monitor.
Each trip, as well as the frequency of movement of a particular passenger are saved in memory of the system, in order to quickly and safely transport people. PORT is an energy saving technology: touch sensor consumes very little power in the period of inactivity, the screen is switchedon only when approaching person. Depending on the interior decoration of the building, the PORT-equipment may be designed in the form of turnstiles, beautiful benches, wall displays or thumbs. It’s easy to install in any building structure, whether it be a skyscraper, intelligent office building, mixed-use complex, hotel, campus or medical facility.
