Hainan Island in Bloom
The smallest province in China, Hainan Island, is soon to gain an immense new hotel and conference centre complex from an internationally-renowned practice. Goettsch Partners has just released details of its Rosewood Sanya and International Finance Forum in Haitang Bay, due to complete in 2015.
Split into two main entities, the complex comprises a 729-key serviced apartment and resort hotel tower and a convention centre devised with a ‘complementary rock form’ on the edge of the bay. James Zheng, AIA, LEED AP, President of Goettsch Partners notes: “The site and context are outstanding. The project presents an incredible opportunity to create a world-class destination.” Once complete in 2015, the 233m-high ‘lighthouse’ tower will be split into 229 hotel rooms and 500 serviced apartments. Goettsch Partners arranged the internal layout so that all visitors staying at the hotel benefit from generously sized rooms and sea views, therefore all of the hotel units are confined to the east side of the tower.
Those staying at the hotel travel directly from the landscaped entryway to a two-storey check-in reception on the 14th floor before being escorted to their rooms on the lower levels. Also available on level 14 is an infinity pool, lobby lounge, restaurant and executive club. The west-facing units on the lower levels and all apartments on the upper floors are reserved as serviced apartments, also operated by Rosewood Hotels & Resorts. A range of gathering spaces or meeting rooms can be found throughout the building as well as multiple food and beverage amenities.
Adjacent to the hotel and serviced apartment complex will be a 28,000 sq m International Finance Forum convention centre whose design ‘represents the calming rock of consensus for the economic and political representatives of the international community’. The structure will include a 3,000 sq m exhibition hall, 1,500 sq m ballroom, forum space for formal state gatherings and numerous meeting spaces, both internal and open-air.
