World’s Tallest Vertical Garden

Local architecture firm Milroy Perera Associates and Maga Engineering have designed the Clearpoint Residencies project, which will be Sri Lanka’s first sustainable high-rise building and the world’s tallest vertical garden.

The 46-storey structure, due for completion in 2016, will feature garden terraces at each of the building’s 164 apartments, creating a living wall of vegetation which will also help to cool the building and provide shade. Each garden will be self-sustaining with a built-in irrigation system.

The innovative design means that the internal space of each apartment opens out onto a planted terrace. As a result of this, residents will be able to immerse themselves in the “advantages of ground floor living,” said Perera, adding that the design would enable to residents to feel at one with the environment whilst also actively contributing to safeguarding the sustainable use of its resources.
