CITIC Securities Headquarters
Rocco Design Architects has been awarded first place in an open competition for the new headquarters for CITIC Securities Company Limited in Shenzhen. The client will now negotiate with the top three firms in the competition before moving forward with the project.
Located on the western gateway to Shenzhen Bay, the mixed-use development comprises 241,000 sq m of space on a 50,770 sq m site.
Rocco Design Architects’ design for the CITIC Financial Centre blends office units, conference facilities, hotel accommodation, and residential apartments across a single high-rise tower and two slab blocks. The frontal slab block slopes smoothly down towards Shenzhen Bay, providing views across the harbour to those in the uppermost storeys.
The concept takes into consideration Shenzhen’s development and urban planning, recognising elements such as building height, generation of public spaces, and three-dimensional greenery.
“On the other hand”, the team says in a design statement, “the centre seeks to convert the sophisticated content to an interaction between the simple form and space. This provides a versatile spatial framework cater to ever-changing functional needs.”
Green terraces line the rooftops of the sloping slab blocks, providing accessible landscaped spaces for relaxation and socialising across three varied heights. These areas are connected by a vertical green wall and mid-air garden.
The practice took part in a threestage invited competition held under the supervision of the Shenzhen Planning Bureau.
