Building Maintenance Units the Benefits are Obvious

Mirror glass facades are a visit card of the modern architecture. They are used both for skyscrapers and typical buildings too. But there is a problem as glasses become dirties from power, rain or snow very quickly and sometimes crack or break under an external impact. To maintain facades in order, stationary facade maintenance systems (Building maintenance units, BMU) are broadly applied. Their appearance was a revolution and today they are assigned by a low in many countries. Nowhere a rope access is applied as it isn’t effective, safe and profitable and the last mentioned is the main reason. Our discussion with Michael Kurohtin, a designer engineer of the Russian company “LTECH”, is about reasons why it is better not to save money on facade maintenance systems.

Michael, it is known that facade maintenance systems aren’t cheap. Why are you sure that their application gives more economic effect than services of industrial alpinists?

My confidence is only based on economic calculations made for buildings with different heights and facade types. There is no doubt that the effect isn’t instant. Primary investments in system design and arrangement are quite huge, but they are compensated in first 4-5 years and the system operation is for 20-30 years. And as bigger a facade area of a building as quicker it is compensated.
