Technology Incredible Staff: New Millennium Technologies and Materials in High-Rise Building
The development of technical equipment and the emergence of new materials have for centuries naturally influenced the architecture. New building technologies have contributed to the emergence of innovative forms and styles. The spread of a certain initial construction materials has largely affected the scale of sustainable growth of architectural techniques and images. In nowadays global world physical borders are no longer an obstacle to reflect new ideas and apply advanced technologies. The essence of the architecture of the new age is the universal application of all developments and innovative concepts, regardless of the geographical location of the structure.
Due to its complexity and polysynthetism high-rise construction is particularly focused on the use of the most advanced technologies. And there may be different approaches to the construction of the tallest, easiest, cheapest, most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly skyscrapers in this respect. In some cases, the emergence of new forms is determined by the use of materials with technical parameters that were previously unavailable from a technological point of view.
In other cases, the characteristic criterion is the unconventional use of materials or design elements that were once represented as elements of high-rise building. Thirdly, the new meaningful use of traditional materials creates new forms of high-rise housing construction. And in all cases, the appearance of the most interesting forms and images in high-rise architecture is closely related to the use of innovative technologies and materials.
Even in the last third of the 20th century the active interest in bionics and various bio-approaches to architectural and construction processes led to it that they started to develop the concepts of building materials that would not only have certain traits but would change them depending on the nature of the external influence of the environment in the existing buildings. These ideas affected basic structural materials as well as the character of the development of the technologies of new envelope structures.
Architects did not only begin to apply heavy-duty and, in the long term, self-healing concrete, heavy-duty low-carbon steel and other innovative materials, but also to form the main aesthetic parameters of buildings on the basis of the changing facades. Various sunscreen and wind-protecting structures, panels with light-sensitive cells that operated according to the diaphragm principle and other gadgets became a special focus in the high-rise building of the new age.
