Canadian architecture practice Henriquez Partners has designed a series of ten towers for a new suburban development in Vancouver. The mixed-use project was made for developer Westbank to create a new 4.5 million-square-foot residential community for the city. Dubbed Oakridge, the towers will include housing, office and retail as a contemporary architecture for the Pacific Northwest.
MAD Architects have revealed a new vision for New York City skyscrapers with a sinuous slender tower near the Empire State Building. Dubbed ‘East 34th’, the project was designed with a dark-colored glass facade that was made to fade into the atmosphere. Located adjacent to one of New York’s most iconic structures, the project rethinks the city’s rectilinear towers and sharp edges to create a new form for the Manhattan high-rise.
Punctuated by four towers of varying size, Aedas’ new design for a mixed-use scheme in Zhuhai, China, uses a looping, layered path to connect the individual structures with a ‘three-dimensional, vertical landscape’. Creating a loop in the sky which symbolises integration, connection and communication, Hengqin CRCC Plaza features a signature sky bridge that links all four towers within the development and offers office, retail and leisure facilities as well as outdoor terraces.
Lead8, the international award-winning design firm, has been appointed to the renowned international team designing One Bangkok. Jointly developed by TCC Assets (Thailand) Co., Ltd. and Frasers Property Holdings (Thailand) Co., Ltd., the highly-anticipated future development will deliver 1.83 million square meters of integrated mixed-use development on a 16 hectare site in the heart of Bangkok. Lead8 is working with a team of local and international design consultants to complete the multi-retail development component of One Bangkok.
Brisbane developer Aria Property Group has lodged its second residential development application within a month, in a sign of confidence for the Brisbane apartment market. Aria has put forth a proposal for an ambitious 128-apartment mixed-use tower at 66 Hope Street with the Brisbane City Council.
Construction work is set to start on a skyscraper, which, once complete, will be the tallest building in both Morocco and the whole of Africa. Topping out at 250 meters (820 feet), the building, which originally name was ‘Bank of Africa Tower’ will contain a luxury hotel and apartments as well as high-end offices. Meanwhile, a viewing terrace is planned for the very top of the tower. The building has been designed by architects Rafael de la-Hoz and Hakim Benjelloun.
Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) has revealed plans for a residential tower to be built in Ecuador. The project, which is BIG’s first in South America, is titled ‘IQON’ and is currently under construction in the city of Quito. Situated between the urban center and la Carolina Park, the concrete structure will climb to a total of 33-stories, offering sweeping views that take in the nearby volcanoes.
Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) has unveiled the design of their landmark Azrieli Tower in Tel Aviv. The 340-meter-tall elliptical building, Tel Aviv’s tallest, seeks to establish a dynamic new identity in a cluster of perfectly square, circular and triangular towers.
Dutch practice MVRDV has won the competition to design the new Vanke headquarters building in Shenzhen. Designed for the major Chinese real estate developer, the 250-meter-tall project is a cluster of eight interlinked blocks of offices, housing and culture. The concept was grounded in MVRDV’s research into the three-dimensional city. Aiming to rethink the next generation of skyscrapers, the tower rises from four separate bases to a single crowning tower.
