Calatrava Aesthetics in Dubai

Emaar Properties has unveiled designs for a new observation tower to be built in the Dubai Creek area of the city. The tower’s design was approved by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Sheikh Mohammed reviewed proposals by six consultancy companies before approving the selection of a design by renowned Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, whose Turning Torso was awarded the 2015 10-Year award by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat.

London-based PLP Architecture has unveiled a masterplan set for Shenzhen, China featuring a supertall tower made up of three rotated and interlocking volumes. The proposal from the architects includes two towers: a performing arts centre as well as a series of connecting structures and buildings that is set to feature retail and entertainment spaces.

9 February 2016 the President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, officially opened a new urban landmark on the skyline of Mexico City - BBVA Bancomer’s new headquarters today. The 50-storey office tower is the first completed building by LegoRogers, a collaboration between international architectural practice Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and Mexican firm Legorreta + Legorreta. The architecture brings together both practice’s different architectural languages yet common values to create a building that is both contextual and distinctive.

Atrium - Verticality Linking the Towers

The new Central Bank of Azerbaijan is generated at the Heydar Aliyev Prospect in Baku according to the design of the Viennese architectural studio Coop Himmelb(l)au. It was the winning project of an international competition in 2008 not only due to its spectacular shape but also because it perfectly met the requirements of sustainability and economy. The two office towers of the new Central Bank of Azerbaijan, rising up to 141 meters, have a polygonal shape with a sculptural twist, connected by a vertical and transparent atrium.
