This paper proposes a series of methods to develop concepts and options of tall building form to the architect and engineer when designing geometrically complex buildings during the schematic design phase. The proposed design process and the developed digital tools become an integral part of the design team approach for tall building design. It will establish not only the overall geometrical forms but also the specific building data for design evaluation and production of three-dimensional models.

On the bank Qiantang River in 2014 will be set the sixth Raffles City, whose construction is already underway. Five complexes with the same name already exist, those in Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu and Bahrain. UNStudio’s mixed-use Raffles City development is located near the Qiantang River in Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province, located 180 kilometres southwest of Shanghai. With a city population of 1.69 million, Hangzhou is one of the most renowned and prosperous cities in China and is well known for its beautiful natural scenery, particularly in the West Lake area.

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat is pleased to announce the winners of its annual “Best Tall Building” awards for 2011. This year’s recipients of the Council’s two lifetime achievement awards were selected by the CTBUH Board of Trustees, under the leadership of Chairman Sang Dae Kim: Adrian Smith of Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture (Lynn S. Beedle Lifetime Achievement Award) and Dr. Akira Wada, Tokyo Institute of Technology (Fazlur Khan Lifetime Achievement Medal).
