Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto has recently released images of a conceptual masterplan for an anonymous Middle Eastern city comprising tapering towers of stacked arches cooled by waterfalls. Fujimoto’s two proposals include a complex at the end of a large avenue in the city made up of multiple towers with waterfalls flowing from top to bottom, and a low-level retail zone interspersed with towers that would be built along the shore.

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) has investigated the increasing trend towards extreme spires and other extensions of supertall (300-meter-plus) buildings that do not enclose usable space, and created a new term to describe this – Vanity Height, the distance between a skyscraper’s highest occupiable floor and its architectural top, as determined by CTBUH Height Criteria.

Riyadh, which name in Arabic means “The Gardens” – is a capital and the largest city of Saudi Arabia. It is also the capital of Riyadh Province, and belongs to the historical regions of Najd and Al-Yamama. Since the 1940s, the city is growing rather fast, particularly its population increased rapidly in the second half of the XX century. Enormous oil revenues dramatically changed the face of Riyadh. This is one of the most modern capitals of the Middle East with a lot of skyscrapers, hotels, shops and mosques – the city has consistently engaged in large-scale construction projects. Cranes and excavators work round the clock to build the new King Abdullah Financial District in Riyadh, which masterplan was developed by Henning Larsen Architects, won in international competition in 2006.

Construction of the first district of Dubai’s Jumeira Gardens scheduled to be completed in the current year, but due to the economic crisis there were made certain alterations: in 2009, the project implementation was suspended. A city within a city, this giant mixed-use project supposed to be a centerpiece of this unique development and of Dubai itself, as well as one of the tallest and largest megastructures in the world.

The capital of South Korea, Seoul – is a modern, beautiful city with a developed infrastructure, and famous not only for the amazing architecture of the past centuries. During the last years its image is complemented with new buildings: there are erected a lot of bridges and high-rises, cultural and sports facilities, landscaped parks and gardens. The office building of Federation of Korean Industries’ HQ as high as 240 meters has recently been completed. The building will rate as one of the highest buildings in Korea as well as a lasting icon for Seoul’s skyline. It demonstrates the power of precise, highperformance, contextually appropriate design. The Federation of Korean Industries represents major Korean companies such as Samsung, lG and Hyundai Motors. AS+GG won an international competition to design this tower in 2009.

ne of the most extraordinary places on earth – is an island, river, city and the state of Singapore, where three cultures have merged. The sidewalkers can find there the rocket sky-high grandiose skyscrapers and ultramodern fairy buildings erected on projects of architects from all around the world, and the next door are located small houses in the eclectic style of the colonial period or constructed in a national local manner. Recently, the skyline of this amazing citystate was replenished with one more original structure – Ardmore Residence building, a work by the famous Dutch architectural firm UNStudio, led by Ben van Berkel.

GDS Architects recently announced that it’s 450 meter tall Tower Infinity observation tower designed by Architect Charles Wee, has received Permit approval for construction near Incheon International Airport just outside of Seoul, Korea. GDS in collaboration with Samoo Architects, A&U and structural Engineer King-Le Chang were awarded first prize in a National Design Competition sponsored by Korea Land Housing (LH) to provide Design and Engineering services for the 450 meter tall Observation Tower poised to become Korea’s National Landmark back in April 2011. In addition, GDS Architects won the original International Idea Competition out of 146 entries from 46 countries in December of 2008.

Calgary is a realy wonderful city - modern skyscrapers peacefully coexist there with unique heritage-listed buildings, museums and galleries. The development of the oil and gas industry has transformed the city into a corporate capital of Canada and it entailed the construction of the headquarters of the leading companies in the industry. History of highrises erection started there from the creation of grain exchange building( 1910), followed by Hotel Fairmont Palliser (1914) and the Center for Elvdena. Prior to the 1970s, there were not a lot tall buildings, but after the 1970’s and up to the 90s Calgary experienced a great boom of the skyscrapers construction.

Miami – is a city located on the Atlantic coast in southeastern Florida and the county seat of Miami-Dade County. The 42nd largest city proper in the United States and most populous city of the Miami metropolitan area, and the second largest most populous metropolis in the Southeastern United States. Miami has a tropical monsoon climate with hot and humid summers and short, warm winters, with a marked drier season in the winter. Its sea-level elevation, coastal location, position just above the Tropic of Cancer, and proximity to the Gulf Stream shapes the fashion on style of buildings erected here.
