Jakarta - the capital and largest city of Indonesia in the near future can get one more picturesque high-rise building. Dutch studio MVR DV is proposing a 400-metre skyscraper for Jakarta that looks like a pile of at least ten separate buildings. This forward-thinking proposal by MVR DV (Rotterdam), alongside American architects The Jerde Partnership (Los Angeles) and ARU P (Dublin), designed the 88-storey «vertical city» as a part of developer’s bid for a site in the south-east of Indonesia’s capital.

As China’s first special economic zone, Shenzhen has brought miracles in urbanization, industrialization and modernization in the last 30 years. BIG is commissioned by Novawest to design a 128 m (420 ft) tall mixeduse observation tower to serve as a symbol for the city of Phoenix, Arizona. Located in downtown Phoenix, the 6503 sq.m (70,000 sf) Observation Tower shall add a significant structure to the Phoenix skyline from which to enjoy the city’s spectacular views of the surrounding mountain ranges and dramatic sunsets. Phoenix-based developer Novawest, commissioned the team to create a destination event to provide tourists and citizens of Phoenix alike the chance to enjoy the unique features of the Valley of the Sun.

The company Capital Group presented one of the largest and the most important projects in the Moscow International Business Center (MIB C) “Moscow-City” – the skyscraper OKO . It is the company’s second similar construction in the metropolitan business center. The first one is the City of Capitals. Its total area is 289 000 square meters and it has already become a significant and organic element of this high-altitude district of the capital. As the authors define it, the OKO is “the project of the future where the space itself inspires extraordinary undertakings”.

The tower designed by Arata Isozaki and Andrea Maffei as part of the redevelopment programme of the historical trade fair area in Milan commissioned by the company Citylife, is the first, with respect to those by Zaha Hadid and Daniel Libeskind, to start construction at the site. From its newly laid foundations (May, 2012), the skyscraper will reach a height of 207 metres in 2015, and will be the tallest in Italy.

We have previously already written on several skyscrapers built for the new Korean Yongsan International Business District (YIBD ) in Seoul, which master plan was developed by Studio Daniel Libeskind. It is so stimulating architectural design that virtually every new building’s project for this district looks impressive and can claim if not on the status of a masterpiece, but certainly for the list of local attractions.
