In Wuhan, China at the confluence of the Yangtze and Han Rivers is being built super-skyscraper of Wuhan Greenland Center, designed by architectural firm Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture (AS + GG ). Entitled Wuhan Greenland Center, the 606m pillar will comprise around 200,000 sq. m of commercial office space, 50,000 sq. m of highend residential accommodation, a 45,000 sq. m fivestar hotel, and a stunning private member’s club in a 27m-tall penthouse volume. When completed the Wuhan Greenland Center is likely to be China’s thirdtallest building, and the fourth tallest in the world. The works on the site was started in 2012 with the pouring of the slurry wall and driving of the piles.

The 64-storey building is located at a prominent corner of this new commercial and mixed-use district planned for the center of Seoul.

Angkasa Raya, situated in Malaysia’s capital at the intersection of Jalan Ampang and Jalan P. Ramlee, directly across the well-known Petronas Twin Towers in the heart of Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), presents a new typology in high-rise skyscraper design that overtly expresses the inhabitation of diverse urban activities in a tropical environment and captures the vibrancy of the city’s multifaceted culture. Rather than competing with the Twin Towers in the form of another “twin” or blending into the surrounding context of singular towers on a podium, Angkasa Raya offers a new contemporary reading of the capital city and stands as an icon of the harmonious and dynamic balance of Malaysia’s cultural multiplicity and diversity.

CityLife Milano is an ambitious commercial and residential development on Milan’s historic former trade fair grounds: the Fiera Milano. Three towers are part of the wider redevelopment program of this historical trade fair area of Milan, one of the largest pedestrian zones in Europe. It covers the area of about 360,000 square meters. Its implementation began in 2007, and all works are scheduled to be completed in 2015.

Known as the ‘region of eternal fires’, Baku’s long history of fire worshiping provided the inspiration for the development’s iconic design, consisting of three flame shaped towers, each with a different function, set in a triangular shape. The architects were asked to design the Flame Towers to reflect city’s history. The project site is located on the city center neighboring two major boulevards, and some important buildings such as National Assembly of Azerbaijan, General Staff Building and Central Clinic Hospital. At the recently passed MIPIM Awards Ceremony the winners were announced. This award recognizes some of the best pieces of architecture within all areas of the real estate sector and Baku Flame Towers received the award for the “Best Hotel & Tourism Resort.”

Economic upsurge of China has led to increased mobility of the population and its concentration in large cities, and this, in turn, requires a substantial increase in residential construction. Thus there is a need to create model projects that would help the government to solve urgent problem of housing to satisfy demand of the growing urban population. Practice shows that in this situation the most suitable option can turn a complex development of territories.
