Annually, every summer the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH ) names the Best Tall Buildings of the year. June 19 in Chicago four buildings from the United States, Australia, the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates were named as the best tall buildings in the world for 2014.

As we have already mentioned, one of the basic conditions of the project participation in the eVolo Skyscraper Competition was the environmental friendliness of the presented model. Therefore, is not surprising that the idea of Russian architect Alexey Umarov to create Hyper Filter Skyscraper was confered by jury with Honorable Mention award.

10 DESIGN architects has recently been awarded a 93 ha Masterplan for a CBD in Pingtan, a New Cross-Strait District for China and It’s Trading Partner, Taiwan. Pingtan is planned as a new commercial hub to drive communication and commercial trade between China and Taiwan.

The Chinese central government has named Tianjin, a port city one hour east of Beijing, as the next step in its economic plan. Within Tianjin is planned to create the Binhai New District, the new economic hub of Northern China. This will be achieved in five years. Sino Steel, China’s state owned steel giant, commissioned MAD to create a landmark for this new central business district. According to the MAD’s masterplan the Sinosteel International Plaza complex will comprise two towers: 358 metres office tower and a smaller one hotel building of 88 metres height.

In Jersey City, NJ is now underway construction works on a 222-metre skyscraper designed by New York studios HWKN and Handel Architects that is set to become the tallest building in the state of New Jersey. Named Journal Squared, the residential development will be located in the Journal Square district of Jersey City, adjacent to the Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) rail station that links the city with Manhattan. Journal Squared is an important milestone as Jersey City’s development boom moves inland.

Vienna’s silhouette recently replenished with a new object. There has been completed construction of the first of the two highrises of the DC Towers. Designed by Dominique Perrault, the DC Towers are a destinctive feature of Vienna’s skyline. The DC Towers (also known as Donau City Towers) will be a pair of towers in Vienna’s Donaucity.

At a recent SKYLINE event held in Downtown Los Angeles local based architects from amphibianArc presented their installation of ever so original structure named Cocoon, which is an actual part extracted from one of the two public buildings designed for the masterplan of a new district in Yichang, China.
