In Melbourne is underway construction of 75-storey tower Victoria One, designed by Australian architectural firm Elenberg Fraser. This is a mixedused proposal located in the north of Melbourne’s CBD, which is considered the most rapidly changing precinct of the city. Completion of works is scheduled for 2018.

Jinhua is located almost in the center of Zhejiang Province, China. This is a famous national historical and cultural place. Rather small by the standards of the country (its population is “only” 5,361,600 people) and the picturesque town is often called “the capital of the handicrafts.” Traditional wood carving, performed here, is famous throughout China and far beyond. Economically Jinhua has always prospered from its position as the regional collecting and processing center for agricultural and forestry products (chiefly rice and bamboo).

Last autumn started construction works on a multifunctional project of Greenland Tower in Chengdu, China, designed by AS + GG (Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture). Due to complete in 2018, this unusual crystalloid 100-storey-high skyscraper is to become the southwestern China region’s tallest building and the fourth-tallest in the nation. It will surpass the city’s current tallest buildings – the Chengdu IFS Towers and Chengdu International Finance Square Towers by over 200 meters.

People always have a desire, even those who do not dread the offending God to build the tower of Babel. 10 DESIGN has won the international design competitions for three separate projects in the Jinwan Aviation City of Zhuhai, where aviation is under a period of unprecedented growth. Zhuhai is a prefecture-level city on the southern coast of Guangdong province in China. Located in the Pearl River Delta, Zhuhai was one of the original Special Economic Zones established in the 1980s. The outstanding geographic location, a wide range of supporting infrastructure and a deep-water port serve as a major attraction for foreign capital.

What is a skyscraper? It is a tall building of glass, steel and concrete, built with the most modern materials and technologies. But more often heard seemingly incongruous words - “wooden skyscraper.” In some countries already constructed or are being erected the buildings made of wood up to 30 floors height, and in international competitions are increasingly represented projects of high-rise buildings with timber frame. The ideas to create such structures arise from the need to improve the ecological state of the environment, energy saving and scavenging the air of carbon dioxide. Such buildings reduce the negative impact on the environment, and wooden structures serve as a good substitute for expensive standard building materials, which production requires a lot of energy. The project of a tall building made of wood was also offered by the famous architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM).
